City of Dreaming Spires

Oxford is an incredible city.  It’s a place of history – with the oldest university in the English-speaking world.  It’s ancient streets have inspired many, including Lewis Carroll, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien.  It’s a place of influence: twenty-eight British Prime Ministers were educated here.  It’s a place of beauty – from the river, to Christ Church Meadow, the Cotswold villages and stunning, ancient architecture.  And it continues to be a place of world-leading innovation, most recently highlighted by the development of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.

City of Revival

From St Frideswide, a seventh century warrior-princess and abbess who became Oxford’s patron saint; to John Wycliffe, the fourteenth century’s ‘Morning Star of the Reformation’, who led the production of the first English translation of the Bible; Bishops Latimer and Ridley, and Archbishop Cranmer, all martyred for their faith in Oxford; John and Charles Wesley and the preacher for revival George Whitfield; to the beginnings of the Keswick movement – Oxford has a rich history of God’s powerful presence moving to change generations, and he’s still doing it today – want to join the adventure?

Our Place

St Aldates has been a part of Oxford’s story for over 1,000 years – a place where people have met together to worship God, study scripture, encourage one another and take the gospel to the nations.  We continue to provide a spiritual home for many in the city of dreaming spires.
